AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn has learned of their bowl game destination and it is just up the road. The Tigers are set to take on No. 20 Houston (11-2) in the Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 28. The game will take place at UAB's brand new Protective Stadium and kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT. The game can be found on ESPN. This will be Auburn's 46th bowl appearance.
The December matchup between Auburn and Houston will be the seventh meeting between the teams. Auburn currently dominates the matchup having a 5-1 advantage in the series with the last meeting being in 1973 at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
“Auburn football has a long history of playing in Birmingham, and now we have a chance to continue that against a nationally ranked Houston team that has won 11 games this year," Harsin said.
The 6-6 Tigers are looking for a bowl game win to have a winning record in head coach Bryan Harsin's first year at Auburn.
"Our mindset is to end the season with a win as we build momentum for 2022, while allowing our guys to enjoy a great bowl experience,” Harsin said. “This game is an opportunity for a number of our players to play close to home and many of our fans to easily attend after Christmas. We want the Auburn Family to turn the new Protective Stadium in Birmingham orange and blue, creating a home field advantage on game day.”
