Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn University announced this week that 2022's prospective applicants to the university had broken several records, including number of applicants, most academically accomplished, and most diverse applying class. Auburn has already achieved more than 40,000 freshmen applications for next fall's semester, an increase of 68.5% and 155% from fall 2021 and fall 2020, respectively.
In addition, students applying from Alabama jumped 76% from last year and student applicants with a diverse background doubled. The university had applicants from students representing all counties of Alabama and every state in the United States. So far, early action periods for the 2022 school year have brought 9,600 acceptances, a 24% acceptance rate. Those students averaged a score of 28.6 on the ACT and an average GPA of 4.21.
This record-breaking year for Auburn was not the product of chance, however, as in the last year Auburn has expanded its dual-enrollment program and joined the Common App system - a tool that standardizes applications to hundreds of U.S. colleges. The expansion to Common App brought in more than 26,000 applications to the university.
As the town and campus of Auburn University continue to grow, so too does its student population. Auburn's commitment and focus to growing a campus that is both larger and more diverse is very much reflected in 2022's applicant numbers, a period that is not close to being completed. Fall 2022 applications close February 1.
