AUBURN, Ala (EETV) - Auburn running back Jarquez Hunter has been named to the SEC All-Freshman team, the Southeastern Conference announced Thursday.
Hunter impressed in his first two games as a Tiger, rushing for over 100 yards in each match. In his second collegiate game, Hunter broke the Auburn record for longest run when he burst up the middle untouched against Alabama A&M for a 94-yard touchdown run.
With his dominant performance early in the season Hunter quickly cemented himself as Auburn’s number two back behind Sophomore Tank Bigsby.
Hunter rushed for 576 yards on 84 carries in the regular season with three rushing touchdowns. The back was active in the passing game as well, recording 12 receptions for 61 yards, including a 9-yard TD catch vs. Ole Miss.
Hunter currently stands eighth all-time in program history for most rushing yards by a freshman.
This is back-to-back years for Auburn that they have placed a running back on the SEC All-Freshman team. Even with the departure of Senior Shaun Shivers the running back room is in good hands.
