AUBURN, Ala. (EETV)- Auburn's offensive coordinator, Austin Davis, will be stepping down after just a month on the job. The news was first reported by 247Sports and confirmed by Auburn on Monday.
“The last week has been difficult for me as I’ve made the decision to step away from coaching football. Auburn University and Coach Harsin have been tremendous through this whole process," Austin Davis said.
Davis was hired by head coach Bryan Harsin on Dec. 18 and had yet to truly be involved at Auburn. Davis, a former NFL quarterback and quarterbacks coach with the Seattle Seahawks, was set to finish out the rest of the Seahawks season which closed on Jan. 9.
"I'm honored and privileged to be the next Offensive Coordinator at Auburn University and to be a part of an elite staff led by Coach Harsin," Davis said after being hired. "Being born and raised in Mississippi, you know very well what SEC football is all about and I couldn't be more excited about the opportunity that is before me."
Since then, Davis has reportedly had a desire to resign his position as offensive coordinator. This will be the second offensive coordinator in 13 months for Harsin and be yet another change to his staff, with defensive coordinator Derek Mason stepping down to take the Oklahoma State defensive coordinator job.
After resigning from the job Davis said, “My decision to resign is 100 percent based on personal reasons. After more than a decade in the NFL with the daily grind as a player and coach I’ve realized how much I miss my family and my desire to spend more time with them. While I need to step away from coaching, I can’t say enough about the first-class way I was welcomed into the Auburn family and the way this football program is run with a championship mindset and a focus on developing these young men into winners on and off the field."
The program will begin a new search for an offensive coordinator.
