AUBURN, ALABAMA (EETV) After starting off its 2022 campaign with five consecutive victories in the Tiger Invitational and an additional win on Thursday over Texas Tech, the No. 25 Auburn softball program continued to stake its claim as a premier team in the country on Friday by adding victories over Wisconsin and the No. 9 Texas Longhorns in the St. Pete Clearwater Elite invitational.
Head coach Mickey Dean’s squad began its day with a convincing 9-3 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers; the group posted four runs in the first frame, witnessed sophomore Shelby Lowe give up just one run yet again and received a trio of home runs from the likes of Makalya Packer, Denver Bryant and Carlee McCondichie.
After turning heads with their first two wins over Texas Tech and Wisconsin, the orange and blue turned to standout sophomore Maddie Penta in the circle; the young gunslinger delivered. Penta tossed 7 innings of 2-hit softball, allowing just two runs and fending off the Longhorns and setting her squad up for an eventual 6-2 victory.
On the offensive side of the plate, the Tigers never let their bats cool down with Packer blasting her second home run of the day and freshman Bri Ellis smacking her fourth bomb on the young season.
Auburn has blasted a combined 15 home runs across just eight contests thus far, just seven shy of its season total in 2021.
The young group looks to build upon its momentum tomorrow when the Tigers take on No. 2 UCLA in their fourth game of the invitational at 9:00 a.m. CST on ESPNU and the Auburn radio network.
