AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Freshmen gymnasts Suni Lee and Sophia Groth were honored by the SEC on Tuesday for their performances against LSU this past weekend.
Lee was named SEC Gymnast of the Week while Groth was named SEC Freshman of the Week.
Lee won her second all-around title in as many meets scoring an Auburn record 39.825. Lee scored her first perfect 10 of her collegiate career on the bars. The freshman became the first Auburn Gymnast to score a 10 since 2004 and the first to do it on bars since 2000.
The St. Paul, Minnesota native rounded out her meet with career highs on both vault and floor, scoring a 9.9 and a 9.95 respectively. In her last event, beam, she tied her career-high with a 9.975 and secured the beam title.
Groth earned the freshman of the week title for the second time this season following career highs in all three events she competed in.
The gymnasts helped Auburn tie the best meet score in program history, and both had scores go towards Auburn’s second-best score in beam and third-best score on vault in program history.
The freshmen will look to continue their dominating performances when Auburn plays host to No. 9 Missouri in Auburn Arena on Friday. The meet will kick off at 8 PM CST and will be broadcast on SEC Network.
