AUBURN, ALABAMA (EETV) The 2022 campaign has been yet another year of tough sledding for the Auburn women’s basketball program. The Tigers have suffered from the inability to finish games, inconsistency from the field and have been unable to establish a defensive identity. When first-year head coach Johnnie Harris’ squad traveled to Coumbia, South Carolina on Thursday night, the group struggled with more of the same.
Despite keeping the contest competitive in the first quarter, the Tigers were simply unable to hang with the No. 1 Gamecocks for 40 minutes, ultimately losing the contest by a tally of 75-38.
"We have to battle every possession," Harris said. "I thought we got our heads down, we took some bad shots. We have to follow the game plan. We took some quick shots that were not in our plan, then we took some bad shots. We have very little room for error, and we made a lot of those errors tonight."
The Tigers’ usual suspects for offensive production — sophomore Aicha Coulibaly and redshirt junior Honesty Scott-Grayson — were held at bay, scoring only 17 points combined; Coulibaly hauled in brought in an additional nine rebounds.
There was one lone bright spot for the Auburn offense: the group gave up a season-low seven turnovers.
With just three games remaining in the regular season, coach J’s group will now turn their focus to Sunday’s clash with rival UGA. Tipoff between the Tigers and the Bulldogs is set for 11:00 a.m. CST on SEC Network and the Auburn Radio Network.
