AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) – Auburn Men’s Basketball guard Wendell Green Jr. was named by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as one of the 10 watchlist candidates for the 2022 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award.
Green Jr. helps the No. 1-ranked Auburn Tigers in a big way, coming off the bench averaging 12.2 points, 5.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game. He has scored 10-plus points in 15 games this season and is 3rd in the SEC in assists per game with an assist to turnover ratio of 2.3.
In the running for the award, Green Jr. will be competing against the best of the best for the NCAA’s best point guard. Also receiving nominations were Alabama’s Jahvon Quinerly, Baylor’s James Akinjo, Colorado State’s Isaiah Stevens, Gonzaga’s Andrew Nembhard, Kentucky’s Sahvir Wheeler, Oregon’s Will Richardson, Tennessee’s Kennedy Chandler, UCLA’s Tyger Campbell, and Villanova’s Collin Gillespie.
The organization encourages fans to take part in the selection of the award winner by entering the Fan Voting, because in late February, the watchlist of 10 players will be cut to just 5. Mr. Cousy and the Hall of Fame's selection committee will select a winner in March.
