AUBURN, ALABAMA. (EETV) - The Auburn Tigers overcame a six-run deficit to defeat the South Alabama Jaguars, 13-12, in a neutral site game in Montgomery on Tuesday night. The win moves Auburn to 15-6 on the season.
The game-winning run came courtesy of Bobby Peirce as he hit a one-out triple and came in to score on Mike Bello’s RBI groundout to break the 12-12 deadlock with the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth.
“Bobby Pierce has probably put in more swings in the cage for the amount of at-bats he has had than anyone I’ve ever been around.” assistant coach Gabe Gross said. “My heart just beats really loudly for him tonight because that’s huge for him to come through in a moment where it seems like everything was quiet and dead for us.”
After being down 6-0 heading into the bottom on the fourth, Auburn put together back-to-back huge innings in which they scored a combined 12 runs in the fourth and fifth.
Garrett Farquhar got the scoring started in the fifth with a solo shot over the left-field wall for Auburn’s only homer in the huge scoring affair.
Eight different batters recorded hits and an RBI for the Tigers.
Brooks Carlson led the Auburn offense with three hits while Blake Rambusch, Sonny DiChiara, Brody Moore, Perice and Farquhar all added two hits each.
Rambusch extended his team-best hit streak to 11 games with a leadoff single in the third and another single in the fourth.
Blake Burkhalter walked away with the win for the Tigers bringing his record on the year to 3-0.
“We started out kind of sluggish, and I was just looking for my time to come in,” Burkhalter said. “We battled as a team. Coming back there in the eighth inning to get a chance to win the game was really important for us.”
Auburn went deep into the bullpen with nine pitchers taking the mound for the Tigers throughout the game. Burkhalter saw the most action with 2.2 innings pitched.
Auburn’s six-run comeback was the team’s largest since Feb. 22, 2017 when they came back from a seven-run deficit to Florida A&M.
The Tigers will be back in action Friday, March 25. As they get ready for their first SEC road series against Texas A&M. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CST on Friday, 2:00 on Saturday and 1:00 on Sunday.
