AUBURN, ALABAMA (EETV)- Senior Sonny DiChiara was named a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week on Tuesday. DiChiara was one 15 players to earn this distinction this week.
In four games this past week, Dichiara hit .538 scoring eight runs and driving in seven. The Hoover, Alabama, native hit three doubles and three home runs in the four games. The Samford transfer is currently riding a seven-game hitting streak and has gotten on base multiple times in all seven games played this season.
From Feb. 20- Feb. 25, the senior reached base safely in 11-of-12 attempts at the plate. The only time he did not reach base was on a sacrifice fly.
DiChiara leads the SEC in doubles with six and is top three in the conference in average (.545), on-base percentage (.645), slugging (1.227), home runs (3) and total bases (27).
Dichiara and Auburn return to action tonight, Feb. 28, with a game against Alabama State. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CST and it will start a stretch of six games in six days for Auburn.
