AUBURN, ALABAMA. (EETV) - Auburn Softball started off it's Friday doubleheader by throwing a combined no-hitter against North Carolina A&T. Maddie Penta got the start and faced the first 15 batters before KK Dismukes finished the game. The win moves Auburn to 17-1 on the season and 11-1 at home.
The no-hitter was the 29th in Auburn Softball history.
The game started out as a pitching duel between Penta and NCA&T’s Icess Tresvik. Neither team got a hit until Sydney Cox singled through the gap to record the first hit by either team in the bottom of the fourth.
The hit would open up the game for the Tigers, Sydney Cox would steal first on a dropped ball and Lindsey Garcia would hit a three-run shot over the left-field wall. Aubrie Lisenby would follow it up with a home run of her own, the first of her career.
With Lisenby’s homerun all nine of Auburn’s normal starters have recorded a home run on the season.
The Tigers would score another run in the bottom of the fifth when Nelia Peralta laid down a sac bunt to allow Carlee McCondichie to score from third.
Maddie Penta moved to 9-0 on the year. The sophomore struck out 11 of the 15 batters she faced all game.
KK Dismukes came in to replace Penta and struck out the first three batters she faced. The junior would allow one walk and recorded four strikeouts in her seven batters faced. The Tigers had a combined perfect game though 20 outs before Dismukes walked a batter with a full count in a pitch that was just off the edge of the plate.
Between the two pitchers, Auburn struck out 14 batters, 11 of which went down swinging.
Makayla Packer’s stealing streak was ended. The sophomore was caught stealing for the first time in her career after successfully stealing 26 straight times.
