AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) – Hugh Freeze and the Tigers continue to add talent to their roster via the transfer portal.
Vanderbilt transfer Elijah McAllister will join the Auburn roster on the defensive line following his visit to the plains over the weekend.
McAllister, who played five years with the Commodores, spent his final season as a captain of the Vanderbilt team. He recorded 16 tackles, including three tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
McAllister saw action in 37 games during his time at Vanderbilt, making 65 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, forcing two fumbles and coming down with a single pick.
The 6-foot-6 defensive lineman has a previous relationship with new defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett. Garrett served as a quality control assistant for Vandy in 2019. Garrett spent some time with the Cleveland Browns before taking the defensive line coach job at Liberty in 2022.
“Honestly it’s huge,” McAllister said of his relationship with Garrett. “This transfer portal thing, especially with a guy like me enrolling in January, you have to build and formulate relationships in three weeks. You’re really more apt to go with a coach that you know personally that’s going to put you in a position to be successful in a short amount of time.”
The grad transfer will have one year of eligibility left at Auburn.
