TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (EETV) - On Thursday, the Auburn Tigers fell just short of the Alabama Crimson Tide, conceding a goal in the 85th minute to lose the game 2-1.
Auburn would equalize in the 37th minute to tie the game 1-1 going into halftime. However, with less than five minutes remaining in the game, Alabama would score their second goal and hold off the Tigers.
Goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska kept Auburn in the game despite Alabama's fourteen shots to Auburn's six. Ten of Alabama's fourteen shots were shots on goal, whereas only three of Auburn's six were put on frame. Prohaska's eight saves kept Auburn competitive until the final minutes.
The Tiger's only goal was scored by Dylan Driver, a redshirt freshman who would be Auburn's sparkplug off the bench in this game. Her goal against the Crimson Tide was only the second goal of her entire Auburn career, and the last one since the Tigers faced American on September 3rd. Although Driver has struggled to get minutes this year, she was a bright spot for the Tigers tonight and will surely be a face in Auburn's soccer program for years to come.
"The Iron Bowl of Soccer" brought energy and aggression from both sides, as 17 total fouls would be committed throughout the game.
Auburn also struggled to keep the ball on the opposing side, as the Tigers would concede four corner kicks throughout the game.
The Tigers will be back at home on Sunday, October 8, against #6 Arkansas. The game is at 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed on SEC Network.
