AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - The No. 12 Tigers made sure their matchup with the No. 16 Tide in the Jungle was personal, as they destroyed Alabama 99-81. This was the Tigers’ revenge against the Tide after they lost to them in Tuscaloosa 79-75 two weeks ago.
Veterans Jaylin Williams and Johni Broome led the way for the Tigers, combining for 50 points and 13 rebounds. Williams made The Jungle go wild with an outrageous windmill dunk at the end of the first half.
Meanwhile for the Crimson Tide, guard Mark Sears led his team with 25 points and nine rebounds. North Dakota State transfer Grant Nelson also provided Alabama with 16 points and six rebounds.
With this win, Auburn Basketball moves to second place in the Southeastern Conference, just behind South Carolina.
Head coach Bruce Pearl knew that the Jungle is one of the craziest college basketball crowds in the country. However, he made sure fans still had respect for players and coaches before the game.
“The crowds have been great and I’m really, really proud of the league and every institution for developing really good fanbases,” said Pearl. “But I want to remind out fans to also be a little bit mindful of the language. I think we can still be wild and crazy and have fun.”
The Tigers will travel to Gainesville, Florida to take on the Florida Gators this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CST. They will be back in Neville Arena next Wednesday to take on South Carolina for a chance to take the lead in the conference at 7:30 p.m. CST
