Auburn gymnastics gets season-high road score at LSU

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - The No. 12 Auburn gymnastics team hit the road for a matchup with the No. 3 LSU Tigers Friday night in Baton Rouge, but ultimately fell short by a score of 197.100 to 198.300. The mark, however, was a season-high road score.

Auburn’s Cassie Stevens finished second in the all-around with a 49.475, behind LSU’s Haleigh Bryant. Olivia Hollingsworth finished the all-around with a 49.375, and Sophia Groth scored a 49.350.

Starting on the bars, Stevens and Gabby McLaughlin both scored a 9.85. Auburn finished with a 49.100 on the event.

Moving on to beam, the visiting Tigers scored 49.250. Freshman Julianne Hoff tied her career-high on the event with a 9.925.

In the third rotation, floor, Auburn scored 49.300. Hollingsworth had another great performance in the event, earning a 9.9 out of the anchor spot.

Auburn continued to improve on their final score all the way into the fourth rotation, beam, posting a 49.450 on the final event. Groth and McLaughlin scored a pair of 9.925s, with that mark being a season high for Groth. The pair of Stevens and Hollingsworth also earned a 9.875 on the event.

“I thought the team fought well tonight in this environment,” head coach Jeff Graba said. “We still struggled starting out slow, but we picked it up at the end with our two best events and I’m happy with that. We need to really find our groove being on the road because we’re away from home all of March and this was a good start for us.”

The Tigers will be back in Neville Arena on Friday, February 23 against Missouri for Senior Night.
