AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn University has laced up its' sneakers for another year of Dance Marathon, as participants stayed on their feet for over 10 hours to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network through their annual ‘Main Event.’

Emma Norus, a third-year participant in Auburn University Dance Marathon expressed her love for this fundraiser and appreciation for the peers on her team.

“My favorite part about Dance Marathon is getting to see all the ‘miracle families’ and the final number flip for all the hard work and fundraising we’ve done all year,” said Norus.

Staff and participants’ dedication is not seen solely at this 12-hour event.

Over the last 10 months, these hardworking individuals have choreographed and practiced their infamous ‘line dance,’ hosting smaller fundraising events, and networking with on-campus organizations to encourage others to volunteer.

The proceeds go to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, GA.

“Right now, we are fundraising to help them build a standalone children’s hospital,” said Enrick Dickey, a third-year participant.

The $300,000 goal was no match for these driven participants as they raised an extraordinary $356,036.24 to develop the Bill and Olivia Amos Children’s Hospital.

Marie Hilliard, the Director of Community Engagement, shared why she loves Dance Marathon.

“[Children’s Miracle Network] is just so much bigger than every single one of us, and then to have fun doing it, it is a beautiful thing,” said Hilliard.

As the 2024 ‘Main Event’ ends, participants are eager to prepare for the 2025 fundraising season.
