AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - February 22 through March 1, The AU Players are performing Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 at The Telfair B. Peet Theatre.
Adapted from War and Peace by Leo Tolstory, the opera tells the story of love and betrayal set in early 1800s Russia. Complete with bombastic dance numbers and heart-wrenching solos, the show offered a fun dive into the fine arts for students and faculty alike.
Directed by Andrew Schultz, Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 is an opera. There is only one or two lines of spoken dialogue in the whole show, the rest of the story is told in song and dance.
The show also incorporates live music directed by Brian Osborne, inviting the audience into a world with fun and varied music, while also scoring the more dramatic moments of the show.
“The cool part about this show is that it's sung through so there are no scenes," said an ensemble member who requested to remain anonymous. "So it's a little harder in the fact that we never stopped singing.”
