AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn University’s International Student Organization spotlighted the Pakistan Student Association as it hosted its ‘social hour’ on Friday, March 1, in the Melton Student Center.
The International Student Organization holds events for people of all ethnicities to come together and experience different cultures while creating new friendships. ISO hosts “Social Hour” dinners which are usually themed and take place in rooms 2222/2223.
The last Social Hour event was Bangladesh themed and included a free meal consisting of traditional Bangladesh dishes. The dinner was followed by an informative presentation on Bangladesh culture given by a student and a fun Kahoot quiz to end the evening.
The International Student Organization’s website reads “International Student Organization’s mission is to improve multi-national understanding and promote relationships between people of different cultures”. ISO helps to ease the process of adaptation for international students. “We actively promote diversity and beneficial interaction between international students and American students."
Friday’s ‘social hour’ included traditional Pakistani cuisine and a brief presentation about Pakistan’s history and some of its most valued traditions.
"It’s all about enjoying [the culture] of Pakistan and trying to reproduce it here, in Auburn,” said Ismael Mian, PSA’s Vice President of Cultural Affairs.
In addition to Social Hour, ISO also holds events including a peace dinner, soccer tournament, world’s fair, and a cultural show. To find more information, follow their Instagram or view their website under the “student involvement” section on the Auburn University page.
