Auburn opens Plainsman invitational with a dominate win over Troy

Auburn (4-0) overwhelms Troy (2-2) taking them down in just three sets to open the Plainsman Invitational.

AUBURN, Ala (EETV) - Auburn (4-0) overwhelms Troy (2-2) taking them down in just three sets to open the Plainsman Invitational.

The Tigers won the first two sets with a score of 25-19 and the third 25-18. Auburn standouts include freshman Lauren Dreves with 10 kills and graduate Chelsey McCurdy with 5 total blocks.

While Auburn did have an impressive .369 hit percentage for the match, it was Troy inflicting a portion of the damage on themselves, committing 21 errors and having just a .159 hit percentage.

The highlight of the night for the Tigers came in the opening of the second set where they would go on a commanding 11-0 run. Troy did have an answer for this run, however, going on a 9-3 run of their own in the following 12 serves.

Dreves had the best game of her young career so far, scoring 11.5 points with a whopping .500 kill percentage and a .450 hitting percentage. McCurdy led the team in kill and hit percentage at .667, followed by Junior Madison Sheer at .533.

Star Trojan Tori Hester lead her team in kills (13), total attempts (34) and kill percentage (.382).

Auburn has now won all 17 matches between the two programs dating back to 1974.

The Tigers continue the Plainsman Invitational on Sept. 5 at 6 CDT in Neville Arena where they take on the 2-1 Cal Poly Mustangs.
