Auburn Volleyball brought the Iron Bowl excitement to Neville Arena last Sunday as they defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide, 3-1.
In the first set, The Tigers started off strong with a 25-19 win. It was neck-and-neck until the Tigers started to run away with a 4-0 run after their 18th point. The Tide were never able to catch up, resulting in a Tigers' set win.
In the second set, however, was where the Tide took control. They had two 5-0 runs after their second and 13th points, which made the Tigers unable to catch up. The set finished 25-15 and the match was tied at one.
The third set went into extra points, but the Tigers were able to rebound, winning it 29-27. They were down 19-16, but after a 4-0 run the Tigers were able to recapture their lead and eventually win the set.
The Tigers put the match to rest by winning the fourth set 25-22. Although the Tide were able to catch up in the 22nd point, The Tigers rallied three straight to end the set and match for the victory.
Senior Bella Bell and freshman Lakin Laurendine led the Tigers with 12 kills each, while junior Alexis Dacosta led with 15 digs.
On the other side, junior Sophie Agee led the Tide in kills with 19, while sophomore Callie Kieffer and senior Francesca Bertucci led with 14 digs each.
The Tigers improve to 2-0-0 in the conference and 12-1-0 overall after their victory, while the Tide fall to 0-2-0 in the conference and 8-5-0 overall.
3,082 fans packed Neville Arena for the match Sunday, which was the highest attendance in Auburn Volleyball program history. Auburn's win shows how powerful The Jungle can be no matter what sport plays in Neville Arena.
The Tigers will be back in Neville Arena on Friday, Oct. 4, where they will face the Georgia Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. CST.
