Auburn Soccer routes South Alabama 6-0 to extend shutout streak

MOBILE, Ala. (EETV) – The 13th ranked Auburn Tigers continue their undefeated start to the season as they defeat South Alabama 6-0. After a slow first half, the Tigers scored 6 goals in the second half to win their fourth straight game.

Despite a slow first half in which neither side netted a goal, Auburn came out and struck quickly in the second half. Graduate Student Anna Haddock scored off an assist from Carly Thatcher in the 49th minute to get the offense started. 5 minutes later in the 54th minute, fifth year senior Mallory Mooney scored to put the Tigers up 2-0.

Sophomore Olivia Woodson recorded two goals of her own in the contest, the first coming off an assist from Sammie Brown in the 58th minute. She followed that up with another goal in the 66th off an assist from Erin Houston.

In the 81st minute, Freshman Lily Borders recorded her first goal in her Auburn career. The goal made her the twelfth member of the Tigers to score a goal this year. The score was assisted by Ciara Brown and Dylan Driver. South Alabama recorded an own goal in the 87th minute to make the score 6-0.

Goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska recorded 1 save and secured her fourth consecutive shutout in goal. The Tigers have yet to allow a goal as a team this season. “Wow, what a second half,” Tigers head coach Karen Hoppa said. “The scoreline shows that our team just made some really good adjustments coming out of the locker room. Then, they put on a finishing clinic, and it was fun to watch.”

The victory moved Auburn to 4-0 on the season and was their 14th consecutive win over South Alabama. The Tigers return home for a bout against Appalachian State on Sunday, September 1st.
