The Auburn Women's Golf team has been in full swing this fall, with a record of 42-3-0 that highlights one win and three top three finishes. With outstanding performances from #20 individually ranked Anna Davis, it is no surprise that the #18 ranked Tigers made a mark at this week's tournament, The Ally at Old Waverly, with a fourth place finish out of 16 competitors.
The team was led with two top-25 finishes. Sophomore Anna Davis ended the week with a tie for third with a score of six under and Junior Katie Cranston at 22nd with two-over.
At 9:06 Monday morning, Anna Davis set the course for round one. Only going over par twice on holes eight and 16, the sophomore managed to come out even with a placement at 16th. Day two, Davis made quite the jump. Achieving the par on holes one through four, Davis saw some momentum and found a nice groove that set her up for success at the fifth hole. Every hole after five kept her on track for an impressive round with her total strokes not going over par once. She was able to slide into the individual top three with an easy under seven on a 72 par. However, round three seemed to test Davis. A comfortable start to the round ended with a triple bogey. At hole 18 she shot three strokes over which brought her total of the day to one-over. Managing to still hold onto one of the top spots, she left Old Waverly with a tie for third.
Having a tough finish, Katie Cranston fell in the individual top 25. Round one proved to be her best with a hot start at 8:48 Monday morning. 68 strokes on a 72 par placed the junior in a tie for second. Unfortunately, the next two rounds were not as strong. Still staying locked in, Cranston broke out with an even score and a fall to sixth on Tuesday. Her final round started with a one-over. Unable to find a rhythm, Cranston ended the day with over strokes on nine out of the 18 holes. Round three concluded with a six-over on 72 and an individual placement at 22nd.
Right behind Cranston, redshirt junior Casey Weidenfield found a tie at 29th with a score of six-over. The rest of the Golf Tigers featured finishes from Carys Worby tied at 36th with teammate Anne Fernandez with both having eight-over, and Balma Davalos at 52nd with eleven-over.
After a great start to the week, Coach Melissa Luellen states that the team, "had too many big numbers" in the final round. Luellen hopes that having an upset before their break will provide them the opportunity to open their spring season more prepared.
The Golf Tigers are back for the Puerto Rico Lady Classic on December 16th.
