AUBURN, AL (EETV)- On October 14, 2024, the first official AP basketball rankings came out– ranking Auburn as the eleventh-best team in the country.
This marks the ninth time in Auburn history that the basketball team has been ranked in the top 25 before the season even began, and the fifth time in the last six seasons.
This eleventh rank is a far cry from last year’s unranked start for the Tigers, though the previous year did snap a four-year streak of Auburn being ranked before the season began. The Tigers of yesteryear took this in stride, though, and finished 27-8 as the eighteenth-ranked team in the nation.
Auburn looks to be a powerful contender heading into this season; ESPN projects the starting lineup to be led by familiar faces in Chad Baker-Mazara, Johni Broome, and Denver Jones; new faces JP Pegues (a Furman transfer) and Miles Kelly (straight from Georgia Tech) will bolster this core to form head coach Bruce Pearl’s squad into a force to be reckoned with.
The 11th-ranked Tigers will open play on November 6 at 8:00 P.M. CST at home against Vermont.
