AUBURN, Ala (EETV) Auburn Cross Country traveled to Madison, Wisconsin to race at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals Meet on the Zimmer Championship Course this morning.
Auburn XC head coach Aaron Kindt said before the meet that it would be “a great opportunity to see some nationally-ranked teams and build our resume.” He also stated that the course was going to be a challenge. “It’s going to challenge you in a multitude of different ways. I'm hoping with all the hills we've done this fall, we’re prepared for a course like this.”
The men’s team finished up 30th out of 32 in the “A” race 8k, led by freshman Nickson Chebii, who placed 72nd, with a time of 23:41.5. He was followed closely behind by senior Ryan Kinnane with a time of 23:42.9.
The women's team finished 6th out of 28 in the “B” race 6k, led by freshman Brenda Jepchirchir who finished first in the race with a time of 20:00.6. She finished with a large lead of 11 seconds ahead of runner up Zenah Cheptoo of Washington State. For Auburn, junior Gene Coetzee was runner up for the team with a time of 21:05.6.
With this race being the final one of the regular season, both teams will gear up to head down to College Station for the SEC Championships on November 1st.
