AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) – The War Eagle Chapter of Women in Aviation hosted its annual Girls in Aviation Day event on Oct. 19 at the Auburn University Regional Airport.
Despite the rising number of women in aviation, women still represent less than 20% of the workforce in most aviation occupations. Notably, fewer than 10% of licensed pilots are women.
Girls in Aviation Day is designed to inspire people of all ages to explore careers and occupations in aviation and aerospace regardless of the existing gender stigma in the industry.
The event featured professionals from major airline and aerospace companies like Delta and Envoy, real aircraft and an opportunity to walk around the plane to gain hands-on experience.
President of Women in Aviation, War Eagle Chapter Ellie Balose, described the event as a way to provide career opportunities and connections in an inviting environment.
“We want to spread the word to girls of all ages that females can do aviation for a profession,” Balose said. “While it may be a male-dominated industry, females need to get into the industry to inspire change for the next generations.”
Although the event focused on girls in aviation, people of all backgrounds attended and got a taste of the aviation world.
