AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) – Auburn University’s Sexuality and Gender Alliance (SAGA) is collaborating with Pride on the Plains to host their first weeklong drag camp at Coffee Mafia, a local queer-owned coffee shop.
Every evening from Oct. 21 through 25, participants have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of drag and learn everything from creative makeup techniques to costume design and stage presence.
Each night will focus on a different aspect of drag and will include fun workshops, mentoring sessions and exciting performances all led by seasoned drag performers.
This event is open to anyone looking to learn about drag in a safe and welcoming environment.
“We really want this event to be casual and inclusive, where attendees can feel comfortable being themselves without fear of judgment,” said Griffin Wilson, SAGA’s Programming and Events Chair.
Wilson said this will be SAGA’s first time hosting a drag camp since the organization rebranded from Spectrum last year, but their collaboration with Pride on the Plains, Auburn-Opelika’s LGBTQIA+ Pride organization, and Coffee Mafia makes them feel confident that the event will be a great success.
Coffee Mafia is located at 414 S. Gay Street, Auburn, AL and the camp will run from 6-8 p.m. throughout the week.
