Auburn Softball falls to Northwest Florida State in last exhibition game

AUBURN, AL. (EETV)- The Auburn softball team fell 6-2 to Northwest Florida State in their last exhibition game before fall ball.

Transfer SJ Geurin got the start for the Tigers and put together a solid performance. She pitched 2.2 innings and allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out two. From there, Hailey Rainey entered the game and also put together a solid outing. She struck out four batters over 3.1 innings pitched, allowing three hits and an unearned run.

For Northwest Florida State, pitcher Cailyn Heyl was the star of the day as she pitched all 10 innings for the Raiders, only allowing two runners to score while striking out three.

Offensively, RBI doubles from Anna Wohlers and Nelia Peralta propelled the Tigers to a 2-2 tie heading into the seventh inning. From there, Northwest Florida State scored four runs in the top of the seventh before Malayna Tambora relieved Blayne Godfrey of her duties on the mound, who finished the next four innings allowing only one hit.

16 hitters took an at-bat for the Tigers, who were able to record nine hits total but could only turn that into two runs as five batters were left on base.

Auburn continues their fall schedule against Georgia Southern on Sunday, October 20 at 2:00 at Jane B. Moore Field.
