Auburn senior Will Nolan captured the singles title in his flight at the Wake Forest Fall Invite this past weekend in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Nolan secured four consecutive wins to claim the title.
Nolan’s title run began Friday with a three-set win over Virginia’s Keegan Rice. He followed up with straight-set victories over Wake Forest’s Cornelius Shalmi and Duke’s Remi Dugardin on Saturday, advancing to Sunday’s final against South Carolina’s Lucas Andrade da Silva. In the final, Nolan rallied after dropping the first set to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, boosting his fall singles record to 7-3.
In doubles play, Auburn’s Jake Kennedy and Nicholas Heng rebounded from an opening-round tiebreaker loss to No. 21 Connor Thompson and Casey Hoole of South Carolina with two wins across Friday and Saturday. Teammates Thomas Kennedy and Joey Phillips also picked up two doubles wins, including a 6-4 victory over Duke’s Dugardin and Teddy Truwit.
Beyond Nolan’s strong performance, Jake Kennedy notched three singles victories against Luke Thomson of UNCG, Peter Glenn of Charleston, and Lucas Bitzer of Tennessee Tech. Phillips, Heng, and Thomas Kennedy each added a singles win during the tournament.
Looking ahead, Auburn’s Billy Blaydes and Alex Frusina will compete for a spot in the NCAA Singles Championship at the ITA South Sectional Championship in Tallahassee, Florida, scheduled for Nov. 7-10 at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.
