TUSCALOOSA, AL. (EETV)- Auburn Women’s Tennis wrapped up play at the Roberta Allison Fall Classic on Saturday, with four competitors picking up a total of eleven victories in singles and doubles play.
Auburn started off strong on Friday, as both doubles teams picked up victories. Alice Battesti and Emma Tothova, competing together for the first time, defeated Delein Kleinhans and Rio Maeda from South Alabama, 7-5. Ava Esposito and Julie Bedard, also competing together for the first time, handily beat Maria Rizzolo and Chiara Di Genova from Mississippi State 6-2.
In singles action, Auburn continued their strong play as the Tigers picked up six victories on Friday. Ava Esposito continued her strong weekend, as despite falling in her first match 6-3 and 6-4, she went on to pick up two more victories, one over Olivia Carneiro of Georgia Tech via walkover and one over Alessia Tagliente of Mississippi State, 6-2, 6-1.
Alice Battesti also picked up two singles victories on Friday, defeating Gianna Oboniye of Mississippi State 7-6 (2), 6-2 and Alice Otis of Louisville 4-3 ret.
On Saturday, the Tigers managed to claim three more doubles victories as the team of Esposito and Bedard defeated Germany Davis and Elena Noguera of Louisville 6-2 and Gianna Oboniye and Jayna Clemons of Mississippi State 7-6 (3). Battesti and Tothova also picked up a victory over Carolina Troiano and Alessia Tagliete of Mississippi State by a score of 6-1.
“A solid weekend from the girls, with a lot of wins and lots to learn from and get better," said Auburn assistant coach Pete Francis. "I feel like we’re performing better and better at each tournament and building momentum for the spring.”
Auburn competes again on Monday, November 4th at the ITF 15K Lincoln in Lincoln, Nebraska.
