The Auburn faithful are only four days away from regular season play, and it is safe to say Auburn Women's Basketball is more than prepared. A Halloween exhibition game against LaGrange featured some Tiger tricks in return for a treat...a nice preseason confidence win. Led by Coach Johnnie Harris, the team got the job done, with a final of 106-26. However, this game was more than just a triple-digit score.
Although the two teams are only separated by 50 miles, this is their first meeting. This exhibition game gave Auburn an exhibition game record of 25-9.
Auburn started their fantastic five tonight which include foward Celia Sumbane, forward DeYona Gaston, guard Mar'shaun Bostic, forward Taylen Collins, and center Oyindamola Akinbolawa. The Tigers' largest lead was 82 points with their longest run being 18-0. Breaking down this team's performance, they ended the night with a field goal percentage of 57.0 and a three-point field goal percentage of 44.4. The Tigers had an efficient night of "nothing but net."
Gaston achieved the first double-double of the night when she reached 25 points and 10 rebounds in the third quarter. Following suit, Mar'shaun Bostic eclipsed 12 points and 12 assists in the fourth. The last double-double came from Taylen Collins when she recorded 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Gaston was the hot topic for the Tigers in tonight's matchup against LaGrange, and rightfully so. The power forward was the team's leader in points, with a total of 32, and rebounds, with a total of 14. On the court for 27 minutes, Gaston went 15-17 in field goals and 2-3 for free throws.
Not far behind Gaston, Taylen Collins had a total of 22 points and played the most minutes for the Tigers, collecting 32 minutes of game time. Going 10-16 from the field, Collins tied with Gaston for offensive and defensive rebounds. These two accounted for over half of the total points scored by Auburn and the team's rebounds. This is a dynamic duo that will be dangerous this season.
Tonight, the Tigers teased a tough lineup that showcased their strong offensive abilities, as well as a dagerous defense that held LaGrange to only 26 points.
