AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) – On Thursday, Nov. 7, the International Student Organization’s annual Peace Dinner took place in the Student Activity Center, bringing together students all across Auburn’s campus through culture and cuisine.
ISO’s annual Peace Dinner, which is highly anticipated throughout the year by students, features dishes from cultures and countries all across the world. The event takes months of preparation and much energy and focus from the ISO’s student leaders. We spoke with ISO President Bren Wells, who told us more about what goes into planning the event.
“This is our biggest event of the semester, honestly, probably our biggest event of the year….For this, it’s really all hands on deck,” said Wells.
She also discussed why ISO is an important organization for Auburn’s community culture: “At Auburn, I think, sometimes we struggle with having a complete integration of international students and domestic students. When I came to Auburn I noticed there was this really big divide, and I found ISO, and it was just, the most perfect fit in the world.”
Students from all backgrounds came to enjoy the food, festivities, and even a special appearance by Aubie at the Peace Dinner. Students Breckin Gould and Francois told us about why they think events like this one are beneficial for Auburn’s student body.
“I think your horizon of culture and understanding expands…here we are in Alabama and it's so southern, but here we’re exposed to so much more,” said Gould.
“It just unites people of different countries, people of different cultures, and this would make a kinda good connection between people at Auburn University,” said Francois, adding that it is “...the best event of the year!”
