WAIKOLOA, Haw. (EETV) – No. 3 Auburn men’s golf started off their spring season in Hawaii for the Amer Ari Invitational this weekend. Auburn finished well in a tough and high scoring field during the three rounds, scoring 53 under par and 4th place overall out of the 20 teams at the event.
In round one, the Tigers seemed to have a bit of trouble getting off to a hot start, only managing 12th place and 8 under par, the leaders on day one were the Cowboys of Oklahoma State, who powered ahead with a -26 round. Despite the team playing a little underwhelming by their standards on day one, the Tigers individual player, freshman Billy Davis, was en fuego. He shot a 65 on the day, including an ace on the 131 yard, par 3 14th. His card was nice and clean as well, with no bogeys for the round.
Round two was much more up to standards for the Tigers, they began to creep up the rankings with an 18 under par round. This boosted them to 7th overall in the event. Carson Bacha and Jackson Koivun both had amazing rounds for Auburn to help them get into a groove. Bacha shot a six under 66 while the sophomore Koivun finished right behind him with a five under 67.
Round three was the best of the bunch for the men from the Plains, with the team scoring a scorching hot 27 under for the day. Auburn zoomed up the leaderboards all the way to 4th place overall. The men on a mission were Ryan Eshleman and Carson Bacha, who both put in a tremendous effort on day three. Eshleman had a clean card with an eagle and seven birdies for a nine under 63 for the round. Bacha launched himself into third overall individually with a heater of his own with eight birdies and an eagle for an eight under 64.
Three Auburn men placed in the top 10 individually for the event, with Carson Bacha finishing 3rd at 18 under par for the weekend, Ryan Eshleman placing 7th with 15 under par through the three rounds, and Jackson Koivun who was 14 under for the invitational and ranked 10th.
