Athens, Ga. (EETV)--The Auburn Tigers delivered standout performances across multiple events at the 2025 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships. Competing at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Georgia, the men's team secured an eighth-place finish overall, while the women claimed ninth.
Auburn opened the competition with impressive relay performances. With a strong start, the men's 200-yard freestyle relay team earned a silver medal, clocking a season-best time of 1:15.80.
Following this impressive performance, the women—just shy of a program record—finished fifth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:35.92. Furthermore, In the men's 800-yard freestyle relay, Auburn secured fourth place, showing the Tiger's consistency in longer relay events.
Continuing with individual events, senior swimmer Reid Mikuta earned bronze in the 100-yard breaststroke with a personal-best 51.52 for the men's team.
The women's team also showed their strength, with freshman Lila Smith finishing fifth in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking a lifetime-best 1:52.34. Even in the long-distance events, the Tigers made waves with swimmer Senior Abby Gibbons posting a career-best 16:08.12 in the women's 1650-yard freestyle, finishing eighth, showcasing Auburn's promising future as their swimmers splash onto the stage.
The Tigers showed accomplishment in swimming events, and their diving followed, proving strong. Junior Carly Goodwin claimed third in the women's 3-meter springboard with a score of 355.45, while Jack Thompson placed fourth in the men's platform event, narrowly missing the podium. Freshman diver Emily Roberts finished sixth in the women's platform competition with a personal-best score of 312.75!
The competition concluded with strong relay finishes from Auburn—the women's 400-yard medley relay team finished fourth, setting a new program record of 3:29.45, and the men's 400-yard freestyle relay secured bronze, touching the wall at 2:47.61.
Auburn's presence on the board across multiple events highlighted their depth and development. Overall, the No. 1 Texas Men's Swim and Dive program won the 2025 SEC Championship on February 22nd, but Auburn's performances set the stage for promising results at the upcoming NCAA Championships on February 26th.
