AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) – No. 25 Auburn baseball hosted Wright State for game two of a three-game series versus the Raiders on Saturday. After beating Wright State in seven innings last night 11-0, Auburn defeated the Raiders in seven once again, earning their sixth win of the new campaign, 11-1.
Despite the scoreline, Auburn was not the first team on the scoreboard. After two innings of scoreless ball and only a couple hits, Boston Smith singled for Wright State in the top of the third, scoring their lone run of the ball game.
However, once this run crossed, it was all Tigers. In the bottom half of the third, Ike Irish tied the game with a single that scored Eric Snow. Then Cooper McMurray singled to score Cade Belyeu and Deric Fabian had a base knock to bring Ike Irish across. Just like that, Auburn led 3-1.
Irish struck again in the bottom of the fourth, adding another RBI single and bringing home Chase Fralick. Eric Snow scored on a wild pitch just one batter later and it was 5-1.
Despite being up four, Auburn broke it open in the bottom of the fifth. Deric Fabian hit a solo homer to lead off what would be a massive inning for the Tigers. Two walks set up a Chase Fralick two-RBI single and then Fralick scored on a wild pitch. Another couple of walks loaded the bases and another walk brought another run home. Auburn hit double digits and led 10-1 after five.
Fralick added one more RBI to his tally in the bottom of the sixth as he singled to right and brought home Chris Rembert. Auburn closed the door in the top of the seventh, earning their second mercy rule win of the weekend, 11-1.
Alex Petrovic started the day for Auburn, throwing 2.2 innings and only allowing two hits and one run while striking out five. Jackson Sanders earned the win, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing a scoreless three hits and striking out a batter. Dylan Watts shut the door and closed out the final two frames for the Tigers, with the Raiders not getting a hit and Watts striking out a pair.
The Auburn offense was led by Deric Fabian and Chase Fralick, who both had three RBIs for the Tigers on the day. Fabian went 2-3 including the homer while Fralick hit 3-4 and scored two runs himself as well. Ike Irish and Cooper McMurray also had fine days for the Tigers. Irish did not record an RBI because the plays were scored as throwing errors, but Irish went 3-4 with three base hits. McMurray had an RBI with 2-4 hitting on the afternoon.
