Auburn Baseball struggles at the plate in 4-1 Loss to No. 2 Georgia

Auburn struggles at bat in series opener against Georgia.

ATHENS, Ga.- The No. 11 Auburn Tigers struggled offensively against the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs on Friday night, managing just four hits in a 4-1 loss at Foley Field. Georgia’s pitching was impeccable, and the Tigers weren’t able to get around it.

Both teams remained scoreless through the first inning as strong pitching set the tone early. However, Georgia found its offensive spark in the second inning when Devin Obee launched a two-run home run over the fence, bringing Nolan McCarthy across the plate and giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, Auburn continued to struggle at bat against Georgia’s elite pitching from the mound. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs were able to extend their lead. Daniel Jackson for Georgia hit a home run, sending Nolan McCarthy and himself to the plate to score.

Auburn remained scoreless until the ninth inning, when Ike Irish hit a double to left center—allowing Bub Terrell to touch home plate. However, this proved to be the only spark of hope for Auburn’s offense the whole game. Auburn’s momentum ended there, as Georgia secured the win with a final score of 1-4.

It was a quiet night for Auburn; however, the Tigers will look to bounce back Saturday at 10 a.m. C.T. against Georgia in the second game of the series at Foley Field.
