AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - This weekend Auburn softball faced No. 4 Florida at home, despite redemption efforts on Sunday, the series was a sweep favoring the Gators.
The series began with an Auburn loss, but an offensive start with a score of 11-7. The Tigers evenly distributed their efforts, as seven different players scored their seven runs, proving a rocky but promising start to the series.
However, on Saturday the Gators proved their dominance, run-ruling the Tigers and ending the game in the sixth inning with a 10-0 victory.
Looking to steal a win from Florida, Auburn came out swinging on Sunday. The first inning was a successful one for the Tigers as they shut out the Gators in the top of the inning with SJ Geurin on the pitcher’s mound. Keeping up the momentum, Icess Tresvik was walked and eventually stole second, then sent home by a home run hit by Nelia Peralta. This quick scoring gave Auburn an early lead, ending the inning 2-0.
The third inning did not fare so well for the Tigers, as the Gators featured five hits earning four runs, earning the lead 4-2.
Scoreless fourth and fifth innings provided hope for Auburn as they held Florida scoreless once again in the top of the sixth. Using this opportunity to chip away at the Gator’s lead, KK McCrary hit a home run to center field. Florida maintained the lead but with a much less comfortable one as the inning ended 4-3.
Unfortunately for the Tigers the seventh inning was scoreless on both sides and the game ended with a Gator victory 4-3. This sweep continued the Tigers losing streak in the SEC with an 0-12 conference record.
Auburn will look to end this streak on Friday, playing Kentucky at John Cropp Stadium with an evening game time of 5:30 p.m. CT.
