Auburn uses six-run fifth to defeat Troy 12-5

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn got their second comeback win against Troy this season on Wednesday, defeating the Trojans 12-5. SJ Guerin got her team-leading 15th win as she went five innings in relief. The Tigers’ offense came alive in the fifth as they scored six runs in the fifth behind the hot bat of Icess Tresvik.

It was a quiet first inning for both teams as Icess Tresvik got three much-needed fly-outs to start the game. Her control would begin to falter in the second though, as she gave up a single to Oliva and Oney to start the inning. Tresvik’s struggles would come to get her as a wild pitch would score Oliva to put the Trojans up 1-0 early.

It wouldn’t take long after for Auburn to pressure Troy’s defense. Three batters later, the bases would be loaded with Annalea Adams coming to the plate, looking to add to her RBI total. Adams hit a hard ground ball to third that ate up Oney, forcing an error that scored Smith. Three straight outs would close the inning, but Auburn’s bats started to create some consistent contact.

In the third, SJ Guerin would come in in relief for Tresvik, and the Trojans automatically started looking to get that run back. The Trojans would load the bases with no outs behind back-to-back hits by Howard and Boswell. Geurin wasn’t fazed by the Trojans' early pressure as she got three straight outs, including back-to-back strikeouts.

Auburn’s offense continued to take advantage of Troy’s poor pitching, especially in the fifth. Started by back-to-back hits off the bats of Annalea Adams and Nelia Peralta, Auburn would score their first of six fifth inning runs off a wild-pitch thrown by Ames. A double by Lech and two straight walks not only loaded the bases for Troy’s relief pitcher, Fleck, but gave up four straight runs without an out. An RBI ground-out to third by Nelia Peralta, followed by a lineout to left would stop the bleeding, but Auburn would blow open the game, 7-1.

Troy would respond with a multi-run fifth inning of their own with some solid contact down the third-baseline. With the bases loaded multiple times, SJ Geurin couldn’t get an out at times. She walked multiple runs home, which helped Troy close the gap to only three.

Auburn continued their middle-inning offensive dominance this season, as they added on five more runs in the sixth. Rose Roach got the sixth inning scoring started with a two-out triple; That hit got her into double-digit RBIs for the year. Following that triple, Smith’s bunt would score Roach, but Tresvik would take sole possession of second on the team in homers with a moon-shot to deep left field that extended the lead to eight.

Troy still wouldn’t go away in the bottom of the sixth as Mckinney would hit a triple to deep right field that bounced off Tresvik’s glove. That RBI by Mckinney would barely beat the eight-run run rule to extend the game into the seventh for the Trojans.

SJ Guerin would end the game and a possible Troy comeback bid as she got three straight outs in the seventh.

Next, the Tigers will look to get their first conference win as they host a three-game weekend series against the number four ranked Florida Gators. The first pitch will be at 6 p.m. Friday and broadcast on WEGL 91.1 FM and SECN+.
