AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) - On Thursday, March 27, the Fight Against Suicide will hold its inaugural event at Auburn University. The event will take place at the Bottling Plant Event Center in Opelika at 7:00 p.m.
The Fight Against Suicide is an amateur boxing exhibition where college students participate as boxers to bring the community together and promote mental health awareness. The event is sanctioned by the United States Kickboxing Association and is run by professional referees, coaches, judges, and ring physicians.
The Fight Against Suicide started in 2021 at the University of Georgia to promote mental health and honor the loss of Samuel Asbury, a student at the University of Georgia who unexpectedly took his own life.
Since its inception, the event has grown and now takes place at four universities: the University of Georgia, the University of Alabama, North Carolina State University, and Auburn University.
Half of the proceeds from the event will go towards East Alabama Health’s Mental Health Center, while the other half will go towards the Samuel L. Asbury Foundation to promote mental health awareness.
