Auburn Men's Tennis beats Arkansas on Senior Day

AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn men’s tennis ended its regular-season home schedule with a 4-2 win over Arkansas on senior day Saturday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.

The Tigers earned the doubles point after a close battle. Arkansas won the top doubles match 6-3, but Auburn’s Alex Frusina and Joey Phillips took a 7-5 tiebreak on court two. Nicholas Heng and Jake Kennedy came back from a 4-1 deficit to win 9-7 in a tiebreak on court three, giving Auburn the early lead.

In singles, Auburn dropped five of the first sets but still managed to pull through. Senior Will Nolan gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead with a straight-set win over Bozo Barun, 6-3, 6-3. Arkansas tied the match with wins at the No. 2 and No. 4 spots.

Billy Blaydes responded with a comeback victory, winning the second set in a tiebreak and taking the third set 6-4. Heng then clinched the match with a third-set tiebreak win.

Auburn improved to 16-7 overall and 6-5 in SEC play. The team finished 13-1 at home this season.

The Tigers will wrap up the regular season on the road at Alabama for the iron bowl of tennis on Thursday at 5 p.m. CT.
