The No. 14 ranked Auburn Tigers secured a huge win against the No.8 Crimson Tide. With an absolute shutout of 10-0 the Tigers broke their four game losing streak. Auburn mercy ruled the Tide in the 7th inning. It was a huge offensive showcase for the Tigers and right-handed pitcher Samuel Dutton who pitched all seven innings for Auburn.
Auburn’s offense came alive quickly during the first inning, igniting a four-run rally that set the tone early against Alabama. It started when Eric Snow singled to right field and later advanced to second on a walk drawn by Chris Rembert. With runners on base, Iked Irish reached on a fielder’s choice that moved Snow to third, setting the stage for Cooper McMurray, who delivered an RBI single to left and took second on the throw. Later, Lucas Steele stepped up and smashed a two-run double to left-center, bringing in McMurray and Irish. Bristol Carter ended the inning with an RBI single to right-center, scoring Steele and pushing Auburn’s lead to 4-0.
Auburn kept the momentum rolling with an impressive second inning, tacking on two more runs to extend their lead. Eric Snow led off with a double down the left field line, and Chris Rembert followed with an RBI double to right-center, driving in Snow to make it 5-0. Ike Irish kept the pressure on with a single to center, and Rembert came around to score after a mistake by Alabama’s outfield. Alabama brought in Coulson Buchanan to relieve Zane Adams on the mound. Auburn loaded the bases after a walk to Cooper McMurray and a hit-by-pitch to Lucas Steele, but a potential big inning was cut short when Bristol Carter grounded into a double play. Still, the Tigers had built a 6-0 lead.
Auburn played a strong inning at bat in the fifth, adding to their already commanding lead. Eric Snow delivered once more, ripping a single through the right side to drive in Bristol Carter, while Deric Fabian and Chase Fralick moved up on the play. Chris Rembert followed, smacking a two-RBI single through the left side to bring home both Fabian and Fralick.
Auburn added yet another run to their tally as Chase Fralick hit an RBI double to right-center, scoring Bristol Carter. The Tigers continued to showcase their offensive power, extending their lead and keeping the pressure on Alabama.
The Tide was not able to put any runs on the board in the seventh inning, causing Auburn to win by mercy rule 10-0.
The second day of the in-state rivals matchup between the Auburn Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide will be Saturday at 7 p.m CT in Plainsman Park. Auburn will hope to keep momentum to earn another win against Alabama.
