The No. 9 ranked Auburn Tigers had a huge weekend against the No. 3 ranked LSU Tigers. Auburn swept LSU 3-0 for the weekend. With a score of 3-2 Auburn’s bats were hot on the final day of the series.
At the beginning of the game Auburn had a strong defensive start with three quick outs alongside starting pitcher freshman Andreas Alvarez.
When the orange and blue came to bat Ike Irish hit an off the wall double, allowing him and Bub Terrell to advance bases. Cooper McMurray quickly followed with another off the back wall hit to get Terrell and Irish to cross home plate.
In the second, the LSU Tigers weren’t able to create any offensive momentum sending Auburn back to bat shortly after. Chase Fralick for Auburn hit a single to advance Bristol Carter as well as himself. Deric Fabian kept up the momentum for Auburn hitting a sacrificial groundout to get Carter to home.
Both of the Tigers weren’t able to capitalize in the third inning with a quiet time at bat.
The bottom of the fourth, Fralick got hot again at bat hitting a “golf-like” swing to send him and Carter to first and second for the second time of the day.
Auburn’s coaching staff decided to switch pitchers to leftie Griffin Graves after LSU got players on second and third in the fifth. On the mound Graves struckout his first batter he faced. Towards the bottom of the fifth, Ike Irish swatted a single.
At the beginning of the seventh, Auburn infield threw an impressive double play to get two LSU players out. The bats slowed down a bit for Auburn at the bottom of the seventh.
In the eighth, Auburn turned to reliever Dylan Watts to close things out, but LSU managed to get two runs, cutting the lead to 3-2 and putting pressure on Auburn.
At the top of the ninth, LSU hoped to put runs on the board however, Auburn didn’t allow them to take a single base that inning. Auburn finished the game with a score of 3-2.
With the sweep secured, Auburn looks ahead to their next matchup on April 15th against Jacksonville State in Jacksonville, Alabama.
