AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) – It was a sunshine-filled afternoon for the 1,758 fans at Jane B. Moore Field, but Auburn saved its fireworks for the final inning.
Down two runs entering the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers stunned No. 18 Georgia with a six-run rally, capped by KK McCrary’s dramatic walk-off grand slam to secure an 8-4 victory on Sunday.
Auburn’s offense, which had been quiet through the first four innings, found life in the fifth when Anna Lech launched a solo homer to put the Tigers on the board.
They tacked on another run in the sixth after a throwing error by the pitcher and a sacrifice bunt. This led to Nelia Peralta coming home and although the run was unearned, it was much needed.
However, the Bulldogs added an insurance run in the top of the seventh, as Jaydyn Goodwin ripped a double to right-center and eventually came around to score after a single RBI from her teammate, stretching the lead to 4-2.
That set the stage for Auburn’s seventh-inning activity.
After loading the bases with one out, Abbey Adams produced, tying the game at 4-4 with a two-run single through the right side. With momentum firmly on their side, the Tigers kept pressing until McCrary stepped into the box with the bases still loaded.
McCrary, who had walked in the fourth inning and lined out in her earlier at-bats, wasted no time. She turned on the first pitch she saw and crushed it over the left-field fence, sending the Auburn dugout into jubilation.
McCrary finished 1-for-3 with four RBIs, while Adams went 1-for-3 and drove in two crucial runs. Lech’s solo homer in the fifth also sparked the Tigers’ comeback efforts.
This is the second time in this series alone that KK McCrary has delivered the game-winning blow.
On the other side, Georgia’s offensive efforts were led by Marisa Miller, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Sydney Goodnight, who reached base twice and doubled in the fourth inning. Madison Digby added a two-RBI single in the opening frame, part of Georgia’s early three-run burst.
Despite Georgia outhitting Auburn 10-5, the Tigers made their hits count late when it mattered most.
The win moves Auburn to 27-17 on the season. Auburn claims their second conference series victory and builds momentum as the regular season winds down. The Tigers will look to carry that energy into their next matchup as they continue to chase postseason aspirations.
First pitch for Auburn’s next game is scheduled for 5 p.m. on April 17 at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. They will travel for another SEC matchup against the Tennessee Lady Volunteers.
