Alabama health officials provide tips to get prepared for the expected landfall of Subtropical Storm Alberto

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (EETV)- The Alabama Department of Public Health is sending out a few reminders of how to be prepared ahead of the expected landfall of Subtropical Storm Alberto. Officials say that power and water supplies may be cut off after a storm so it is important to always have an emergency water supply, emergency food and medicine on hand, and to gather safety and personal items in advance.

Auburn University arborist says Auburn's Oaks are doing well

Auburn, Ala. -- The Auburn Oak's at Toomer's Corner have long been a major part of the Auburn culture and spirit. Auburn University arborist, Alex Hedgepath, explains that the Auburn Oaks planted in February, 2017, are in a healthy state.  The trees were able to maintain their health after the rollings that occurred throughout the 2017-2018 football season, and are continuing to have good root development.  “Both oak canopies are in fair condition,” Hedgepath said.

Time is running out to submit requests for absentee voting

Montgomery, Ala. -- Secretary of State, John H. Merrill, has begun to issue reminders to voters to submit their requests for absentee voting.  The deadline to request an absentee ballot is quickly approaching on May 31, by the end of the business day. Putting in a request for an absentee ballot will allow voters to submit their votes for Alabama's 2018 Primary Election, which will occur on Tuesday, June 5, 2018.  The deadline to return the absentee ballot after is has been received is by the end of the business day on Monday, June 4, 2018.

Auburn University identifies best protective dog breeds

Auburn, Ala. -- Auburn University psychology professor, Jeffery Katz, is using psychology to discover which dogs would be the most effective in providing security for the nation's largest venues.  With tragic attacks that cause the nation to focus harder on securing large events and crowds, Auburn has been setting their focus on providing cyber safety, public safety, crisis management and odor detection technology, by using both human experts and some furry friends. At the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University, there is a program that allows experts to research and train dogs in odor detection.

Auburn Pharmacy School gets high ranking

AUBURN, Ala. (EETV) – The Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy was recently ranked among the top 25 pharmacy programs in the country by Drug Store News. In an effort to help hiring managers find the right pharmacists for specific retail environments, the magazine compiled a list, offered in no particular order, of the top programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education. “Being recognized as one of the top 25 pharmacy schools in the country is a testament to the hard work of our students, faculty and staff,” said Dean Richard A.
