(EETV) – Auburn is joining three other Southeastern universities in a $5 million research effort to help ensure water for agricultural production while maintaining healthy rivers and springs. The project, funded by a five-year grant from the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture, seeks to safeguard the sustainability of agriculture and forestry while protecting water quantity, quality and habitat in the underground Floridan Aquifer and the springs and rivers it feeds. The Floridan Aquifer is among the largest and most productive aquifers in the world and is a vital regional resource shared by Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

(EETV)– HealthSouth Corporation of Birmingham recently invested $325,000 in Auburn University’s School of Nursing, solidifying the partnership between the healthcare provider and the university’s nursing program. AUBURN, Ala. – While fruits and vegetables are undeniably good for the body, they’re also a major boost for Alabama’s economy, Auburn University and Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station economists found in a recently completed analysis of the industry. “Specialty crops is definitely a potential growth area for Alabama,” said Deacue Fields, chair of the College of Agriculture’s Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology and study leader. “We grow a lot of corn, cotton, soybeans and peanuts, but in terms of profitability per acre, specialty crops rank highest,” Fields said. The study was funded by the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program of the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries.
