Gainesville, FL (EETV)- The twelfth ranked Auburn Women’s Gymnastics team travels to Gainesville, Florida, this weekend to take on the Gators in a matchup of the SEC’s only remaining unbeaten groups. This matchup could serve to be a decisive moment in the season’s storyline as it features two teams primed to continue their success for the second half of the 2019 campaign and make a run for the SEC Championship in March.
Florida, who is currently the nation’s No. 2 team, is coming off of a 198.025-point performance against the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners a week ago. Auburn is riding the momentum from their 5-0 start, which is the best start in program history.
That streak continued in a 196.125-196.000 victory in Lexington last week. Auburn saw Drew Watson and Derrian Gobourne tie for the All-Around title as the two scored an impressive 39.350. To add to a career night for Watson, she also set or tied her career high scores in 3 of her 4 events.
Auburn will need Watson and Gobourne to continue their dominance this Friday against Florida in order to continue this win streak, as the Gators have scored 197.300 or higher in each of their meets this season.
This meet’s outcome will have a lot to do with how the remainder of the season shapes out for the SEC, but don’t be surprised if these two meet again in New Orleans on March 23rdwhen the SEC Championship rolls around.
The meet will be held in Exactech Arena in Gainesville, Florida, at 6:00 P.M. Friday night. It will also be broadcasted live on the SEC Network.
