Auburn Sports: What you need to know for the Spring Semester

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Classes may have just begun but your Auburn Tigers have not missed a beat. While the rest of the University was on break, Auburn athletes continued their regular competition and have been preparing for their upcoming seasons.  If you happen to find yourself bored or needing an excuse to procrastinate, here is what you need to know concerning Auburn sports this Spring.  As you know, basketball, both men and women, have been playing their seasons since November.

Basketball climbs poll to No. 17

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - After another victorious week, Auburn basketball climbs up from number 22 to number 17 in this week's AP Poll.  With their win over Mississippi State 76-68 Saturday, the Tigers claim sole possession of the SEC, going 4-0 to start conference play and 16-1 overall.  Florida (12-5) and Kentucky (14-3) follow closely behind in the standings, both 4-1 in the SEC. The Tigers now have the longest active win streak in college basketball at 14 games.

Austin Wiley ineligible for remainder of the basketball season

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn basketball forward Austin Wiley has been ruled ineligible for competition until the 2018-2019 the NCAA announced Thursday. The NCAA released the following statement regarding Wiley: "Auburn men’s basketball student-athlete Austin Wiley will not be eligible for competition until the 2018-19 season following an NCAA reinstatement decision.

Kerryon Johnson declares for NFL Draft

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn star running back Kerryon Johnson announced he will enter the 2018 NFL Draft and forego his senior year at Auburn.  The junior running back made his announcement on Twitter Tuesday evening.

Auburn offense struggles in loss to UCF

Atlanta, Ga. (EETV) - A highly motivated No. 12 UCF knocks off No. 7 Auburn _____ for the Peach Bowl crown and gets their 13th win of the season. UCF dominated the Tigers throughout the game, leading all but once. The artificial turf was the Tigers arch nemesis offensively, as they struggled to get a pass or run game established.

Former Auburn assistant softball coach Corey Myers banned from campus

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Auburn banned former Auburn associate head coach Corey Myers from the University campus two days before his father's, Clint Myers, retirement. In a letter obtained by ESPN, the university's Title IX office wrote a strongly worded piece advising Corey to stay away from campus. "We have determined there is sufficient evidence ... to conclude that you violated the policy prohibiting 'pursuing or engaging in romantic relationships' with more than one student whom you supervised or taught while you were employed as associate head coach of the softball program," Auburn Title IX coordinator Kelley Taylor wrote in the letter to Corey obtained by ESPN and was dated Aug.

Men's Basketball Routs Gardner-Webb

Auburn Ala. (EETV)- The Tigers and Runnin' Bulldogs met for the second time in series history at the Auburn Arena. Auburn's basketball team had a blowout against Garner-Webb 80-55. Desean Murray had a game high of 20 points, and Anfernee Mclemore had a double double with 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers.

Auburn headlines All-SEC Team

Auburn, Ala. (EETV) - Kerryon Johnson and several of his teammates have been named to the AP All-SEC team.  Braden Smith, Carlton Davis, Jeff Holland, Daniel Carlson and Johnson were selected to the first team All-SEC. Jarrett Stidham and Tre Williams round of the All-SEC selections for the Tigers, being named to the second team.  On top of these selections, Stidham was named AP SEC Newcomer of the Year while  Johnson was named AP SEC Offensive Player of the Year. Stidham, a Baylor transfer quarterback, helped lead the Tigers to the SEC West title and a 10-3 record.  He finished the season with a 66.7 completion percentage, going 218-327 on pass attempts with 4 interceptions.
